Publication Date : 2024-06-24

During your four years of college, aside from spending every day with your classmates, wasn't there also a mentor by your side, sharing in all the ups and downs? On the 24th, National Chung Cheng University announced the results of the "University-wide Excellent Mentor" selection for the 112th Academic Year. The honors were awarded to Professor and Department Chair Hung-Chih Kan of the College of Science, Associate Professor Mu-Shu Yun of the College of Management, and Associate Professor Wei-Ni Wang of the College of Education. These three teachers have not only addressed students' academic needs but also actively cared for their personal well-being, serving as a strong pillar of support for the students.
During his tenure as a mentor, Professor and Department Chair Hung-Chih Kan of the College of Science has devoted significant effort to students' course planning and academic studies. He not only understands their academic needs but also shows concern for their living conditions and financial situations, actively assisting any student facing difficulties. Professor Kan is dedicated to mentoring students; he schedules regular weekly lab seminars, emphasizes the learning process, and encourages students to participate in various academic competitions and international conferences to gain more substantial practical experience.
"Enabling students to reach their ideal destinations is the greatest reward of this job." Writing recommendation letters for students advancing to the next stage of their education is a routine part of a teacher's job. Associate Professor Mu-Shu Yun of the College of Management devotes his personal energy every year to reviewing students' application documents and offering guided suggestions for revision. Consequently, over the years, he has received gratitude for his assistance not only from his own mentees but also from students within and outside the department. In addition to being honored as a University-wide Excellent Mentor this year, Professor Yun's conscientious attitude toward teaching also earned him the Excellent Teaching Award in the 111th Academic Year.
Associate Professor Wei-Ni Wang of the College of Education is dedicated and enthusiastic, frequently showing care and assisting students in resolving issues. She believes that university students possess basic judgment and decision-making capabilities but often lack a listener and courage. Therefore, she maintains a relationship that is both mentorship and friendship to bridge the gap, objectively helping students solve problems or guide their perspectives. Every semester, Professor Wang organizes group meals with students to strengthen the bond between teacher and student. She tailors her mentorship focus to students of different year levels, and based on the curriculum and activities of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education, she assists them in fulfilling the department's academic requirements. With Professor Wang's assistance, every student is able to achieve their personal plans.
